PM Sogavare On Final Leg of Second MSG Tour

Chairman of the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG), Solomon Islands Prime Minister, Manasseh Sogavare, has arrived in the Papua New Guinea Capital this evening to complete his second visit of the MSG Capitals.

Hon Sogavare already visited two other M-S-G capitals of Port Vila, Vanuatu, and Suva, Fiji in January this year.

He did not travel to Port Moresby because his counterpart, Peter O’Neil was unavailable at the time.

Hon Sogavare did meet New Caledonia’s FLNKs representative in his January visit to Port Vila.

The MSG Chair uses his MSG Capital visits to discuss issues affecting and of concern to MSG Members.

His meeting with his PNG Counterpart is scheduled for Wednesday March 15th.

Tomorrow, Hon Sogavare will pay a courtesy call on Governor General, His Excellency Bob Dadae.

Hon Sogavare is accompanied by Madame Sogavare, the Secretary to the MSG Chair, Mr Rence Sore and two other officers from the Prime Minister’s Office and two Close-Protection Police officers.

Indonesia Berkomitmen Bantu Fiji di Bidang Kepolisian

, Jakarta: Menteri Luar Negeri RI, Retno L.P. Marsudi bertemu dengan Menteri Pertahanan dan Keamanan Fiji, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola pada 14 Maret kemarin.

Selain itu, Inoke mengunjungi Indonesia juga dalam rangka kerja sama dalam bidang kepolisian.
“Komitmen Indonesia untuk bekerja sama dengan negara-negara Melanesia untuk meningkatkan kapasitas di bidang kepolisian,” ucap Juru bicara Kementerian Luar Negeri RI, Arrmanatha Nasir, di Jakarta, Rabu 15 Maret 2017.
Sementara, dalam pertemuannya dengan Menlu Retno, dibahas mengenai hubungan bilateral dua negara dan bidang kepolisian itu sendiri.
Dibicarakan juga peran Indonesia di Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) dan peran Indonesia di dalam pembangunan negara-negara Pasifik.
Arrmanatha menambahkan, Inoke ini sebelumnya adalah Menlu Fiji. Sekitar setahun yang lalu, ia dipercaya untuk menjabat sebagai Menhan Fiji.
Selama ini, Indonesia juga memperjuangkan agar kelompok separatis Papua yang menyebut dirinya United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP), untuk bergabung dengan MSG.
Namun dengan Papua Nugini yang akan menjadi Ketua MSG yang dimulai pada Januari 2017, penentuan anggota penuh akan dilakukan pada pertemuan tingkat kepala negara. Pertemuan itu akan berlangsung sekitar September 2017.
